He received his Bachelor's of Arts from Wichita State in June of 1969, then went on to gain his Master's of Arts in English from Wichita State in May of 1973. Furthering his career he earned his Master's of Business Administration from Southwestern College in August of 2002.
He cherished music and was an avid collector of vinyl records. Some of his favorites were of course Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Simon & Garfunkel, Steely Dan, Janis Joplin, The Eagles, James Taylor and of course Fleetwood Mac because of Stevie Nicks!
Richard loved his hats and of course his pipes, as well as reading all types of books. He even wrote several poems back in the day. He also loved taking photographs and going back to remember the when's and where's.
He was a wonderful listener with a huge heart, and was definitely the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar he had in his wallet.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Woodward; stepsons, Bryan Pierce and Chris Warren; grandchildren: Chad and Courtney Harbour-Nordahl with great granddaughter, Riley as well as Camden, Aiden and Quinn Warren; sister, Sue and Bernie Bernard with Harley; brother, Larry and Lynette Woodward with Jason and Holley, brother, Garry and Karen Woodward with Ashley and Melissa.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vera Mae Woodward (Boston) and father, Russell Eugene Woodward.
A memorial service for Richard will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209. Following the memorial service will be a graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in The Garden of Christus.
