Nelda Kay Goodwin

Nelda K. Goodwin, 80, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born September 23, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Archie and Marguerite Virginia (Stoner) Edwards.

Nelda attended Wichita West High School where she graduated with the class of 1961, then she attended Friends University and graduated in 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education, and where she was a member of the Singing Quakers. . Nelda taught at Payne Elementary for 38 years where she enjoyed teaching first and second graders.

Nelda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry L. Goodwin on September 27, 1975 at Northridge Friends Church in Wichita. At the time of her death, she was the President of Edna Chilson Friends Women Group, where she cherished the time with her friends, and helping with different mission projects.

Nelda had a passion for spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, she was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, and also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. She was a woman of strong faith and was an active member of Northridge Friends Church.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sisters; Marilyn (Jay) Rutledge & Marjean (Bud) Sparks; and her brother-in-law, Allen Goodwin.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 48 years, Larry; her children, Crystal (Shawn) Milliken and Kimberly (Kris) Lowmiller; her four grandchildren, Kayla, Hunter, Alexander, and Alyssa; her sister, Carolyn Stands; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside Committal Service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. US-54 Highway, Wichita, Kansas, in the Garden of Faith. Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to: The Edna Chilson Friends Women Group in care of the funeral home.
