Mildred Louise (Lambert) Lantz, 87, died at home on Thursday, March 10, 2011. Born on November 16, 1923 in Barber County, Kansas to Charles Edward and Grace Harminnie (Paden) Lambert, she attended grade school at Fairview school, a one room school and graduated from Sawyer High School, Sawyer, Kansas in 1942. After high school she worked in various homes and a bakery in Pratt. Kansas. Due to her Great Aunt Maude, an opportunity arose to attend the Venus Academy of Beauty in Wichita, where she graduated in 1947. She was employed as a cosmetologist in Lindsborg, Kansas and later in Emporia, Kansas after her marriage on June 21, 1947 to Eugene Melvin Lantz. Although the majority of her life was spent raising her three children she also worked for some time running a family business, Lantzkraft Ceramics, during the early 1970’s and was active in bowling and golf leagues and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Mildred and her husband enjoyed traveling and seeing the country after his retirement and attended square dance conventions. Up until her death she regularly attended YMCA water aerobics classes and services at Crossroads Baptist church where she was a charter member. She is survived by daughter, Belinda Lantz Marner of Iowa City, Iowa, and son Jerry and daughter-in-law Atalias Lantz of Sao Paulo, Brazil; sisters Joyce (Bill) Shook of Mulvane, Iowa, and Betty Catlin of Springfield, Missouri; sisters-in-law Karen Lambert, Pratt, Kansas and Evelyn Lantz, Wichita, Kansas; brothers-in-law King Davis, Wichita, and Cleve Hildreth, Skiatook, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews and their children; special friend Kandy Johnson of Wichita, Kansas; special young friend Melquisedeque da Silva Romano (Melqui) of São Paulo, Brazil and her church family at Crossroads Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Eugene M. Lantz, son Randal M. Lantz, seven brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday March 17 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 11441 East Central Avenue, Wichita, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church for the purchase of Portuguese Bibles for distribution in Brazil or to The Lord’s Diner, 520 North Broadway, Wichita, Ks. Family was important to her and she always tried to be there when anyone was in need. Her loving, caring spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
