After graduating high school in 1949, Mary went to the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., graduating in 1953. She spent the summer as a camp nurse before moving to Honolulu, Hawai’i, where she worked at the Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children. Mary met her husband, Richard “Dick” Inman in Hawai’i, and they married there in 1956. They had been married for 49 years when Dick passed away in 2005.
Dick’s job in the Navy took the two of them back to the mainland, and they were stationed at various bases across the country while their family grew to four children. Mary was a homemaker and a nurse while raising the family. Mary met many life-long friends she continued to keep in contact with long after they had moved to a new city. During her children’s high school years in Memphis, Tenn., Mary worked as a nurse at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family moved to Kansas in 1977 and settled in Andover until the 1991 tornado ripped the roof from their house. Mary and Dick settled into retirement on land in Udall, KS. Mary enjoyed watching the small airplanes take off and land near their home while reading a book or listening to the radio. She could always share the latest news on the Shockers, Wildcats, Jayhawks, Royals, and Chiefs, and was a loyal listener to The Rush Limbaugh Show.
Mary is survived by her son David K. Inman (Candice), Lithia, FL; daughter Carol Hoover (Lee), Liberty, MO; daughter Nancy Kennedy, Lenexa, KS; son Michael Inman, Wichita; sister June Feil, Crosby, ND; grandchildren Dave S. Inman (Brittany), Amy Inman, Jamie Hoover, Jeyne Sandusky (Jameson), Courtney Ekengren (Jeremy), Kari Ashley (Jonathan), Keith Kennedy (Kate), Kirk Kennedy, Samantha Inman, Katherine Inman; and great-grandchildren Ryan,Trevor, Karter, Kendall, Hudson, George, Maria, Edith, Zelie, Genevieve and Resi and numerous nieces and nephews.
