Mark Isaac Mitchell was born August 21, 1969, in Wichita, Kansas at Wesley Hospital to Erma Jean Davis-Mitchell and Jacob Bill Mitchell. He was their fifth son and known as “baby boy”. He passed away suddenly June 5, 2024, at the age of 54 years old in Wichita, Kansas at Wesley Hospital.
He is survived by his four siblings: Waymon Charles Mitchell (Marina) of Busby, Montana, William Bill Sullivan (wife Patricia) of Leesburg, Virgina, Victor Jay Mitchell (wife Tamara) of Wichita, Kansas, and Kayla Jean Mitchell-Rhine (husband Bryant Rhine) of Wichita, Kansas, dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and a large host of spiritual family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: mother, Erma Jean Mitchell-Davis and father, Jacob Bill Mitchell; and brother, Erik Bill Mitchell, all of Wichita, Kansas.
Mark was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 19, 1985. He was given a monogrammed Bible with his name and date of baptism and to this day, it is still in protective covering as it meant that much to him. Not only the Bible itself but the date that he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Mark would talk to a person for hours on two subjects that he loved, the Bible and the University of Oklahoma Sooner Football.
Early in life as a child, some in the congregation would call him “preacher" because he loved to go door to door and discuss the scriptures. He was full of energy, at times mischievous but cuddly and was many people’s ‘Little Markie’.
Mark’s nickname to those who were close to him was Markie. His mother and sister called him Cornbread because he loved cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet. He was known to try to eat the whole batch of cornbread both while growing up at home or even later visiting his sisters house. Always asking, "You got any more cornbread?"
Mark loved to cook and share food with friends and family. He would smoke his infamous “Atomic Buffalo ‘poppers’”, baking taquitos and various other treats.
One of his favorite scriptures was John 8:32 “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.
