M. Eugene Mason

Mason, M. Eugene, 64, Goddard High School math teacher for 33 years passed away Oct. 1, 2010. Eugene helped with fundraisers for Anthony Stiles liver transplant, MDA, and student programs. He graduated from Woodston High School in 1964, Ft. Hays State College 1968 and Ft. Hays Sate College in 1977 with a Master’s Degree. Gene taught math and coached at Goddard High School from 1968 -2001. He was a member of Goddard Education Association, Kansas National Education Association and National Education Association. He was awarded The Master Teacher Award in 1977 and Favorite Teacher Award in 1991 which was a highlight in his service. Gene was the primary person to bring computer math programs to the Goddard School system. Subjects taught included Calculus I and II, Trigonometry, and Analytic Geometry. He served as Mathematics Department Chairman. Preceded in death by his father John Mason. He is survived by his wife Judy; Willie the Wildcat Mason and Rocky the Flying Squirrel Mason; stepsons Ryan McMinn of Wichita, Robert Garrett of Hutchinson; stepdaughter Dianna Davis of Emporia; mother Opal Mason; brother Dennis (Carolyn) Mason of Goddard; sisters Delores (Gorman) Rubottom of Stockton, Patty (Jim) Northup of Phillipsburg; nieces Shannon Kee, Sharon Perez, Sandy Rubottom, Kelly Northup Dibble, Michelle Houser; nephews Brad Rubottom, Timothy Mason, Jeramy Mason, Joel Mason, Austin Mason, Alex and Jason McNeal; great nieces Jami Applegate, Casi and Jaci Houser, Amanda Rubottom, Emma and Gracie Dibble; great nephews Jordan and Joshua Perez, Parker Dibble, Shea Ward, William Kee, and great great niece Paityn Perez, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Memorial service is 3:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 16 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel. Memorial established with Kansas Humane Society and Goddard High School Sports Department.
