Allen, Lucille E. (Funk), 95, retired school teacher, passed away on January 22, 2012. She was born on April 22, 1916 in Conway Springs, KS. She began her teaching career in a one-room country school by Conway Springs and then to Montgomery County in southeastern Kansas. She spent the rest of her teaching years, after marrying husband James Fargo on May 12, 1940, at Dodge, Waco, and Kistler Elementary Schools in Wichita. Memorial Service will be held at Resthaven Mortuary on Friday, 3:00 pm. Lucille outlived her husband, Jim, the love of her life, by almost 29 years. She is survived by son, Delvin Allen and his wife, Marcia, Wichita, KS; daughter, Sharon Poff of McGaheysville, VA; three younger brothers, Glenferd, Ralph, and Robert Funk; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with many nephews and nieces. Mom Allen’s three favorite expressions were: “This old gray mare, she ain’t what she used to be,” “I never thought I’d live this long.” And “when you get this old I hope you have someone who’ll take care of you!” Memorials to First Church of The Brethren, 1103 Jefferson, Wichita, KS, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 N.
