Lorraine Catherine Wedman, 80, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 17th, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas in the care of Good Shepherd Hospice. Lorraine was born on April 6th, 1942 in Antonino (Ellis County), Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Pfannenstiel) Urban.
Lorraine was the ninth child out of twelve children and often when asked of her upbringing she would fondly say, “We might not have had many things but what we did have was love and laughter”.
We are thankful for her devotion as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved in her past time bowling, boating, singing during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings along with dominoes and card game, pitch, joined with laughter all around. Fond memories for Lorraine were her many vacations with her siblings from Branson to Hawaii. In her later years, she was known for cheering on her WSU Shockers and her KU Jayhawks basketball teams and the KC Chiefs. Occasionally, she would cheer on K-State, if she thought “they would show up”, with chili and cheese dip as a favorite game time “go-to’”.
Lorraine is survived by children, Loren and wife, Deidra Vanderheiden; Julie Schriner, Gina and husband, Charlie Hernandez; siblings, Melvin Urban, Arsenius and wife, Rosalie Urban, Twilla and husband, Ronald Kush, Alberta and husband, Jim Klein, Joseph Jr. and wife, Sheila Urban, Gene Beck (married to the late Lillian Beck); grandchildren, Shala Buckner, Tabitha and husband, Eric White, Brandi Schriner, Amber L. Vanderheiden, Candace N. and husband, Cameron Mills, Mallory and husband, Brett Smith; 7 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine (Pfannenstiel) Urban; late husband, Delbert R. Vanderheiden; a second marriage to the late husband, Robert "Bob" W. Wedman; daughter, Kaylene M. Jenkins; grandchild, Darci Hernandez; sisters, Lillian Beck, Delores Harris, Johanna and husband, Delmer Brodie, Virginia and husband, Larry Zimmerman, Helen Urban; brothers, Julius Urban and Ervin Urban.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Resthaven Mortuary in the Chapel, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas with Pastor Aaron Wallace presiding. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Garden of Lord's Prayer.
