Kent and I worked together for several years when we were first starting out in lab technology. He was never seen without a smile on his face, a joke on his lips, or a prank he wouldn't try. He was good natured and was well liked by just about everyone who ever came into contact with him. 
It was Kent who decided on tying "Mean Dean" Wampler's apron strings to his chair at work. Dean had this habit of being so wrapped up in his work, he didn't pay much attention to anything else... like Kent crawling up on his hands and knees (no easy task since Kent was such a tall guy), and tying Dean's apron strings to the back of the chair he was sitting in. 

At least once a day, Dean would need to get up to solder something, or go steam something off and he always stood bolt upright like he was in a hurry. When he did, if Kent had worked his magic, Dean would stand up and sit right back down because those strings held him to the chair. Kent would be rolling on the floor laughing and so were the other 20 or so of us in the crown and bridge department. If Kent was up to his best efforts, that scene would repeat itself at least two or three times a week.

Dean was a good man - he always laughed at the hilarity slapstick of it. Not sure I would have. "Mean Dean" was anything but mean and Kent and Dean were good friends - much like a father and son. Dean taught Kent how to finish metal copings and gave Kent a start in dental technology.

Both of these guys are gone now and as pieces of my life fade away, these stories bring a smile that helps cover the lump in my throat.

The good news is I heard from a friend that Kent had found new life in Christ since those days. We will see Kent again, healthy and happy and in more joy than he ever knew here on earth. He is even now realizing what the bible calls the "hope of Glory". May Kent rest in His grace and glory!

... I bet Dean's laces have already been tied at least once or twice...

I honestly cannot remember ever seeing Kent without a smile on his face. He always seemed happy and laid back, even when I saw him a few months ago. He still put a grin on and asked how I had been. My thoughts are with you all 

I never got to meet Kent but my husband Anthony thought of him as another father and definitely a friend. The memory I'm sharing is actually from Jake, mine and Anthony's son.
Jake loves visiting Kansas, and he said one of his favorite memories was shooting guns with Kent, Matt, and Anthony.  It was his first time and a very special memory. When he heard the news this morning he told me again how much fun that was and how much he liked "Uncle Matt's dad".
My deepest condolences go out to your family. Anthony has always told me how much love your family has and I pray that that love lifts you all and helps you through this difficult time.

He leaves behind his 8 grandchildren, who he loved and adored. He is also survived by parents, Geraldine and Willard Wortman; Siblings, Karen Riddel and Kristin Cooper (Steve); and numerous nieces and nephews who were cherished.
