This hard-working, very often stubborn man, believed in taking care of his family and raising his children with the same family values that he held dear. He connected tightly with his beloved family and neighbors, leaving his legacy to the generations that follow.
He was born in Wausaukee, WI, to Roland and Gladys (Bosar) Rickaby on May 2, 1937.
He married, Carol Boyd, on November 15, 1958, in the chapel at McConnell AFB while he was stationed there. They have been by each other side for 65 years. They have traveled the world together, been separated multiple times due to military deployments and TDYs. which only made their bond stronger.
In 1955 Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force and made it a twenty-year career. He became an aircraft electrician, and those skills were utilized extensively during six different duty assignments throughout the United States and Europe, as well as deployments to Vietnam and Thailand. He retired from the Air Force in 1975 at McConnell AFB.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol, sons, Randall (Cheryal) Rickaby of McAlester, OK, Daniel (Jeannine) Rickaby of Wichita, KS, and Patrick (Susan) Rickaby of Wichita, KS. Ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren survive him. He also has two surviving sisters, Jean Nachtwey of Bend, OR, Donna Beno of Green Bay, WI, and sisters-in-law Fay Kantorowski of Wichita, KS and Betty Boyd of Wichita, KS.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Gladys Rickaby, in-laws Dean and Fern Boyd, brother James, brothers-in-law Marty Beno, Donald Nachtwey, Bobby Boyd, Gary Boyd, and sister-in-law, Joan Rickaby.
A memorial has been established at The American Heart Association in Jerry's memory.
At Jerry’s request there will be no viewing, he will be laid to rest at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita, KS on September 21, 2022, at 10 AM.
