Called to be present with the Lord on February 16, 2021
Floyd Adel Atkins, the youngest son of Lula and Robert Atkins, Sr., was born in Wichita Kansas, on July 18, 1947. At a young age, Floyd accepted Christ as his personal savior and grew up as a member of Strangers Rest Missionary Baptist Church. The church in which his mother served faithfully.
He graduated from East High School in 1965. His career began with the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas and ended with retirement in Seattle, Washington. Upon retirement and the death of his wife, he returned to Wichita, Kansas to the home in which he was raised.
The journey of one’s life in this world is hardly easy. Floyd took each challenge as it came and epitomized what it meant to be a hard worker. He was always good-tempered, easy-going and a man of few words. Nothing much ever seemed to rattle him. Some of his most favorite past times were playing dominoes and shooting pool. And, how he loved any kind of sport especially basketball and baseball. You could always find him in front of a television watching a game with family and friends.
Floyd is survived by sons Andre’ Atkins (Monica Jones), Floyd Atkins, Jr. (Taylor); daughters Antwanette ‘Peaches’ Atkins (Randy Smart), Nicole Atkins; grandchildren Donald Atkins, Pierce Atkins, Jagger Atkins, Ajana Atkins and Chle’ Atkins; and many nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife Helen; parents Lula and Robert Atkins, Sr.; brothers Robert Jr., Melvin, Milford, Murphy, Sherman, and Gene; sisters Ersal and Gladys Gilkey.
