Dorothy enjoyed growing flowers of all kinds, turning her front yard into a garden area and they spilled over into the backyard also. She spent many years baking cakes for friends and family’s birthdays, especially her coveted Mississippi Mud Cake. Dorothy sewed dresses for her daughter Elaine, staying up late many times to finish something special for birthdays or school choirs. Books were also a favorite of hers, and there were very few on her shelves that she had not read. Countryside Christian Church (formerly Woodlawn Christian Church) was a very important part of her life for many years, being a second home and second family. Dorothy participated in many groups, taught several ladies classes, and eventually went to work at the church for twenty years. She also helped many brides with their wedding plans as Wedding Coordinator at the church. Traveling with the seniors group, even before she “retired”, was a fun way to see new places with friends, and helped to publish a monthly newsletter to keep them up-to-date.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Myrtle Bennett; brothers-in-laws, Jack Wright, Oran Wendt, and Rolland “Mike” Keller; and her sister, Helen I. Keller.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Ron) Weishaar; granddaughter, Hannah Weishaar; brother, Ed Bennett; sisters, Joy Wendt, Mary Wright, and Marjorie Moon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service for Dorothy will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Countryside Christian Church, 1919 S. Rock Road, Wichita, Kansas 67207.
