David Allan Pettay

Pettay, David Allan fought a brave and honorable battle with cancer. He was 52 years old. He is survived by his wife Cathy, a son Chris and a daughter Cayte and her husband, Matt Mavec. Surviving family also include his mother Wilma Pettay of Hutchinson, Kansas, his brother Michael Pettay and wife Karey of Colleyville, Texas, his sister Janice Zerger and husband Tim of Olathe, Kansas, and his sister Diane Schultz and husband Dave of Hutchinson, Kansas. He also leaves nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and an abundance of friends who will miss him always. Dave graduated from Kingman High School in 1976 and Emporia State University in 1981. He taught and coached in Cheney, Kansas for 13 years and then taught and coached in Maize, Kansas until his death. Dave touched so many lives. He was proud to be a teacher and a coach. Mentoring and encouraging young lives was his gift, the number of people whose lives he touched is his legacy. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Joe Davison and Dr. Robert Gonzalez and their staff at West Wichita Family Practice and Dr. Pavan Reddy and his staff at The Cancer Center of Kansas for supporting and giving dignity during a difficult journey. The family also wishes to thank the many friends who surrounded them and made each day better. Visitation is 2 to 4 pm Sunday at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service is 10:00 am Monday, May 10 at Westlink Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Harry Hynes Memorial.
