Darrell attended Wichita Public Schools, then moved to Mississippi, where he attended his last years of school. While in Mississippi, he met the love of his life, Linda Walker, and the two were married January 31, 1957.
Darrell worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for a couple years, then was transferred with the company to Seattle, Washington, where he also cut wood on the side in the mountains. After a few years, he returned to Wichita, where he worked at Cutler Repaving for several years, then took a job at Rainbow Bakery where he worked until his retirement.
Darrell enjoyed camping, fishing, dog and horse tracks, along with going to the casino.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Mildred; his son, Darrell Murphy; and his daughter, Debbie Macphail.
He is survived by: his son, James "Jim" Murphy; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, with a Graveside Service at 3:00 PM, both at Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4550 Montgomery Avenue, Suite 1100 N, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
