Darrell was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Wichita. He attended schools in Wichita and in Junction City, Kans., where he graduated from high school in 1955. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated from Wichita State University where he received a B.A. and a master's degree in school administration. He was a classroom teacher in Wichita and was principal at the former Sunnyside Elementary on East Kellogg before moving to San Francisco. There he taught and was a Program Director upon retirement. He was a member of numerous educational professional organizations. While in San Francisco he was the owner of a highly successful educational software company known throughout the West, and was active as an educational computer specialist. Upon his return to Wichita he worked for the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
As a teenager, Darrell was a horseman and as an adult he was an avid sailor. He sailed with the Wichita Sailing Club at Santa Fe Lake, Ninnescah Sailing Association at Cheney Lake, and the Walnut Valley Sailing Club at El Dorado Lake. While in San Francisco he cruised San Francisco Bay and its delta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil R. and Hazel C. Crocker.
A private graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, in the Mulvane Cemetery, the Rev. Gary Harms officiating. Donations in Darrell's name are recommended to the American Heart Association.
