Masters, Cecil Grover, was born in a farmhouse in Farlinville, KS, the fourth of twelve children, to Leda and Grover Masters on January 22, 1923. He passed away on May 7, 2016 in Wichita, KS at the age of 93. Cecil graduated from Mound City High School in 1942 and entered service with the US Army Air Corp in 1943. He completed Basic Training in Atlantic City, NJ and served in Kunming, China with the Flying Black Widow Squadron. In 1945, he married Mary Ellen Vanderhaden of Kansas City, KS. He retired in 1966 from McConnell AFB in Wichita. While stationed in Tachikawa, Japan, Mary and Cecil adopted two Korean children, Thomas and Mary Jane. Following retirement, Cecil opened Shocker Mobile Homes on East Kellogg with his close friend and business partner, Paul Treadwell. Cecil married Virginia McConnell in 1973. They lived in Derby until Virginia’s death in 2014. Cecil is survived by his son, Thomas Masters of Sparta, NJ, Tom’s children, Sheena Masters of Vernon, NJ and Jae Masters of Keyport, NJ; Cecil’s daughter, Mary Jane Brooks of Niceville, FL, and her children, Vicki Sellers of Niceville, and Chaunda Brooks of Atlanta, GA; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Wed. May 11, 2016 with family present from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be 2pm on Thurs. May 12, 2016. Both services will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita.
