Landis, Betty E., age 91, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born Betty Emma Rose in Parsons, Kansas on November 7, 1925 and was raised in Parsons by her mother, Pearl Newell (Carter) Rich, and her step-father, Demarest Loren Rich. She was married to John Curtis Landis on October 16, 1949 in Parsons and they moved to Wichita in 1956 where they lived the rest of their lives together. John preceded her in death on May 29, 1998. Preceding her in death also were her mother and step-father, her brother James Darrell Rich, and her sister Dorothy Louise Stringer. She is survived by her brother Merle Dean Rich. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses: John Edward Landis, of Wichita; Ronald Fred (Bonnie) Landis, of St. Louis, Missouri; Catherine Louise (the late Ronald) Eldridge, of Wichita; Carolyn Sue (Douglas) Holdeman of Wichita. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren are: Jessica Ottenlips, Jacob Landis, Beverly Dye, Michelle Hutchison, Andrew Holdeman, and Christopher Eldridge. Her great-grandchildren are: Kira Dye, Walker Dye, Christopher Ottenlips, Ethan Landis, Alexander Ottenlips, Rose Ottenlips, Bella Hutchison, Maxwell Ottenlips, Devin Hutchison, Mira Holdeman, Beau Holdeman, and Charles Ottenlips. She is also survived by a dear friend, Fran Dunn, sister to Doug Holdeman. Cherished sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend to many. Betty joined the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church on East Mt. Vernon street in about 1959 and the church was a big part of her life from then on. She was very active in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, helping with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, church dinners, meetings, and was active in her church prayer circle for many many years. Visitation will be on Thurs. Dec. 1, 2016 from 6 to 8pm at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E 13th St N, Wichita, KS. Funeral services will be at 2pm on Fri. Dec. 2, 2016 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 5701 E Mt Vernon St, Wichita, KS 67218. Betty's wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes will be buried with her husband, John C. Landis, at Old Mission Cemetery, Wichita.
