Alice M. Humlicek, age 91, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023. She was born on January 26, 1932 in rural David City, Nebraska to Joseph F. and Rose B. (Voboril) Palik. After graduating from High School, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse for 3 years before she married Roman Humlicek in 1953, and moved to California where he was stationed in the Navy. They raised their family in Wichita after moving there in 1957. Eventually, Alice returned to work as a lunchroom aid and then as a mathematics paraprofessional, and retired from the Wichita School District #259. Alice is survived by her children: Susan Baty (H. Charles, Jr) of Wichita, Donald Humlicek (Beth) of Wichita, Shirley Werth (John) of Haysville, Duane Humlicek (Denise) of Burlington, KS, Sandra Cole (Bill) of Wichita, and Sharon Mahaney (Ben) of Boise, ID; Sister: Libbie G. McAuliffe of Omaha, NE; 18 Grandchildren; 38 Great-Grandchildren and 1 on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roman, and her brother Milo Palik.
Alice and Roman were long time members of the Midwestern Polka Club of Kansas, and were part of their family polka band for 40 years. They traveled to Europe and the Midwest playing many dances and attending festivals and parades. Alice enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, traveling, camping and dancing. She also loved spending time with her large family and many friends.
A visitation for Alice will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2801 S. Seneca St., Wichita, KS 67217. A rosary service will occur Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, also at St. Anne Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A committal service will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47th St. S., Wichita, KS 67215. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 2801 S. Senecs St., Wichita, KS 67217.
