Mickey Jane Hood Parnell passed peacefully from this Earth on Wednesday, December 21st at her home in Holliday, Texas surrounded by those who loved her and were privileged to know her beautiful spirit.
Mickey was born in Wichita Falls, Tx to Charlotte and Chesley Hood. She lived in Valley View and graduated high school there in 1959 where she was a majorette, twirler, cheerleader and volleyball player. Mickey married her husband Terry Parnell in 1959 and they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Once married, she resided in Holliday, Texas. Mickey spent her adult life caring for and beautifying the lives of her family and friends. She enjoyed trying new things, tennis lessons, ceramics, even dabbling in crochet and knitting for a time. She was very involved in her children’s lives; always a room mother, a senior trip chaperone and one to always volunteer to help. After her kids left home, she continued this demonstration of love, going on to support them and her grandchildren at every stage. She babysat, attended all birthdays, various sports endeavors, dance recitals, choir recitals, plays and more to make sure her grandchildren were loved whether locally or from afar.
With an eye for beauty and character, Mickey also spent her life in service outside the home making the world around her and for those who knew her a more beautiful place. She worked with her sister and niece in a silk flower arrangement and decorating business, the Silk Tree. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Holliday throughout her life including teaching little ones in Sunday school in her younger years, a member of the Women’s Ministry Union and enjoying the fellowship of her Sunday school class.
In her retirement years, she spent her time decorating and redecorating while still enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren and volunteering on the Church decorating committee.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Parnell, her sister, Suzie Bentley and husband Doyle, brother Arthur Terry Hood, daughters Penny Parnell Glasscock and husband Joe, Amanda Parnell Overstreet and husband Chris, daughter-in-law Connie Peterson Parnell, grandchildren Tyler Parnell and wife Hope, Jacob Overstreet and wife Lauren, Katherine Overstreet, Laine Apple, and great grandchildren Bentley and Blane Parnell as well as several nieces and nephews.
