Mattie Lee Rivas

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2015 in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum at Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 in the evening on Friday, July 10, 2015 at the funeral home.

Mattie Lee Garrett Rivas was born July 3, 1926 in Wichita Falls, TX to William Ace Garrett and Mattie L. (Hasley) Garrett. Her mother passed away after her birth and the family went to live with her paternal Grandparents, Johnathan Joshua and Mary Lula Cooper Garrett in Ringling, OK and later moved to Chickasha, OK. Mattie met and married William A. Morris in 1942. William Morris joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Manchester England with the 8th Air Force. He was lost in October 1944 over the English Channel.

Mattie married Cid R. Rivas in 1946. Cid spent his career working oil fields and the seismograph business. Together they moved all over the U.S. and raised 2 daughters, Mary P. Jones and husband Robert R. of Burkburnett, TX and Candace Taninanika Murray and husband Galen J. of Huntsville, TX. She was a homemaker and studied real estate and became a real estate broker. She worked in real estate in Harlingen, TX 1975 to 1982 and Wichita Falls from 1982 to 1995. Cid and Mattie lived in Wichita Falls from 1982 until his death in 2006 then Mattie moved to Burkburnett to be with her daughter and Son in Law, Patty and Robert Jones.

Mattie is survived by her 2 daughters, Mary Jones and husband Robert and Candace Taninanika and husband Galen, 4 grandchildren; Patrick G. Pennington and wife Ronda of Waxahachie, TX; Marina L. Simmons and husband Thomas J. of Denton, TX; Galynn Murray Clopton and husband Ashley of Huntsville, TX and Cid W. Murray of Huntsville, TX. She has 6 Great Grandsons; Patrick Bryson Pennington, Thomas J. Simmons II, Payton C. Pennington, Robert Andrew Simmons., Ashton Murray Clopton, and Preston Lee Clopton. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
