Matthew was born February 6, 1972, in Antioch, CA to James Ray Edwards and Donna Kay Edwards. He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1997 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked at Howmet Aerospace as an X-ray Technician.
Matthew was a devoted father, brother, and son. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and being a handyman, always finding something around the house to fix.
Matt was an animal lover, loved all kinds, he passed that down to Maddi and she remembers the vast number of pets they had just because she wanted to keep whatever animal she found…even the deer got names because no animal could go without a name.
Matt always took Wyatt to work with him during the summer, mowing The Estates in Canyon Lake, painting houses, but most importantly teaching Wyatt life skills. They had a shared love of football, and Matt was the proudest dad on the sideline watching Wyatt play, and even more proud to watch Wyatt play in college.
Jaymee remembers shopping trips with her brother, buying summer clothes for Maddi and Wyatt and Matt saying ‘Let’s have a fashion show’ playing musical director so the kids could show off their new clothes. He had the biggest smile playing all the songs for each new outfit.
Matt had a weekly Sunday call with his brother Greg, never once missing an opportunity to brag to each other about their kids. They shared a love for cooking, talking about sports and work, and always sending each other care packages.
Matt loved animals and football, but his biggest love was for Wyatt and Maddi.
Donna: Rest in peace my beautiful Son! I will always Love You!
Jaymee: I will remember your smile forever. I love you little brother and I will miss our Sunday Football text back and forth (you complaining about the Cowboys, me complaining about the Steelers)!
Greg: I will always remember all the good times and travels that we shared. Rest easy Matthew, I love you!
Jim: I love you, son, forever and always!
Wyatt: I love you dad, rest easy!
Maddi: Dad loved fiercely, and always made sure to tell me how much he loved me and never let me forget it. I love you, dad!
“The Lord is my shepherd, Matt lacks nothing. He makes Matt lie down in green pastures, he leads Matt beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides Matt along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though Matt walks through the darkest valley, Matt will fear no evil, for you are with Matt; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:1-4
