Mary Helen (Spurlin) Loveless was born to Claude and Vivian Spurlin, April 8, 1928, in Haskell, Texas. Mary passed at the age of 96, January 4, 2025, at Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas surrounded by family.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Claude, mother Vivian, husband Allan, brother Billy and his wife Billie Anne, sister Claudine Hall and her husband Dick, and close nephew Butch Spurlin.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Burgess, Burkburnett, Texas, son Paul and daughter-in-law Mary Anne, San Antonio, Texas, son Timothy and daughter-in-law Cindy, Wichita Falls, Texas, grandchildren, Michael and Gregory Burgess, Christopher, Brian and James Loveless and Kristen Hyatt, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Graham High School May 1945. She married Allan Loveless July 25, 1947. Allan joined the Air Force shortly after they married, she traveled with him to Air Force Bases in Florida, Maine, Germany, California, and Texas. They settled in Wichita Falls June 1966.
Although she would describe herself as a mother and homemaker, she worked many jobs. Mary picked cotton during summers to earn money for school clothes, commissary checker in Germany, movie drive-in snack bar in Abilene, Texas. She sold Luzier cosmetics in California and worked in Rivkin Pharmacy snack bar in Wichita Falls. Her favorite and last job before retirement was as a bookkeeper at Longhorn Trailer Company working with her friends Roma Yokley and Georgia Ruth Draper.
Mary joined, with her family, Beverly Drive United Methodist Church in 1966. She was an active member helping with the youth group on many trips to the Wichita Mountains. She helped with many Beverly Drive chicken spaghetti dinner fundraisers. She was active with Walk to Emmaus and remained close to her Emmaus Reunion group.
Mary loved to travel by car. After retirement she traveled with Allan, her mother Vivian, and her Aunt Bess all over the United States. In her 70's Mary continued to travel by car with her mother to the Grand Canyon and many national parks. Grandmother said, "she would do the praying, and Mary would do the driving", on these many adventures.
Mary was a fashionable dresser. She had a standing Thursday appointment with her hairdresser Jan, only the worst weather would keep her from this appointment. On Sunday, it was always heels and a nice dress. In her last years as a resident at Senior Care, she would not leave her room unless nicely dressed, hair combed, and make-up done. Loved by her caregivers, this earned her the nickname of "fashion queen".
Mary was a strong, gracious, and loving woman. She was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law. Mary was an incredibly involved grandmother. She was a part of all their lives.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home of Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be Monday, January 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM, also at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. As per Mary's request please dress in bright colors for visitation and the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Beverly Drive United Methodist Church or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
