John E. Martin, 87, formerly of Irving, Texas died Monday, January 3, 2011 in Midland. Services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Weldon Day. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
John was born October 23, 1923 in Wichita Falls to Allen F. Martin Sr. and Alvina Martin. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. November 16, 1946 John married Gladys Imadell “Pat” Nelson in Wichita Falls and together they raised two daughters. After the military he worked as a truck mechanic, retiring from Lonestar Peterbuilt in 1994. John loved to go dancing, loved children, especially his grandchildren, joking with others, and tinkering with things around the house.
Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Pat Martin, in 2008; parents, Allen and Alvina Martin; son, John Edward Martin, Jr. in 1952, and son-in-law, Gene Eckert. Survivors include his devoted daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Ron McCauley of Wichita Falls, Carole Eckert of Midland, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Allen F. and Billie Martin, Jr. of Hurst, TX; grandchildren and spouses, Dawn and Bob Stivers, Denton Keltner and Cynthia Dooten, Chris and Christen Myers, Stephanie and Cary Tyson, Shea and Jon Phelps; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
