Doris Thomas ended her amazing one hundred year journey in this world early in the morning on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Surrounded by family, she watched her Texas Rangers win their first World Series and decided to continue that celebration in heaven.
After the loss of her husband Lafoy in 1995, she showed strength and she has been the true leader and heartbeat of the extended Thomas family for many, many years. She frequently spoke about the blessing of her family, and she is survived by five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. Those grandchildren will greatly miss her red Christmas envelopes, hand written birthday cards, and genuine love and interest in their lives during each conversation. She is survived by two children, Charlotte and Lyndon. She is now reunited with her oldest son, Jimmy.
Conversation skills were certainly a gift. She has fostered many close friendships over the years with neighbors and friends, often enjoying long phone conversations and time at the beauty shop and later, the senior center in Wichita Falls. Skilled at pool, bowling, and an avid domino player, she always brought fun and joy being active with family and friends alike.
It’s literally impossible to summarize such a vast, impactful life of one hundred years in a few paragraphs, and this humble grandchild will not even attempt. Her legacy, though, is something that she often pondered in her later years, and one word always came back to the top of the list - family. The values of hard work with kindness, morality coupled with compassion, and truth bonded with love is left behind in the hearts of all that she touched.
