Bobby was born August 8, 1934 in Powell, Oklahoma to Dempsey Claude and Ora Adaline (Carroll) Dunn. On April 18, 1954 he and Shirley Lee Rexrode were married in Hollis, Oklahoma and their union was blessed with 4 children.
He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was also a member of Faith Masonic Lodge 1158 AF&AM where he was a 32nd degree mason and served two terms as Grand Master.
Bobby served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia in the 1950’s as a military police officer. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he moved his family to Borger, Texas and then Lawton, Oklahoma before settling in Wichita Falls in 1971. While in Wichita Falls, he was owner and operator for the Industrial Vending Company for many years. He finished his working career at Midwestern State University serving as the Physical Plant Supervisor from which he retired in 2003. While at MSU he was awarded the President’s Classified Staff Award for outstanding service to the university.
Bobby loved fishing, travelling, gardening, the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Oklahoma Sooners. He especially enjoyed tinkering with just about anything mechanical and was gifted with the ability to figure out how things worked as well as how to fix them.
But the thing Bob was best at was being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His smiling and friendly way was always directed to them and available to his extended family and the many friends and acquaintances who enjoyed his company as well.
Preceding Bobby in death were his parents and his siblings Bill Dunn, John Dunn, Juanita Dunn Vinson, and Joan Dunn Bryant.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley, along with their children Brandon Gene Dunn of Wichita Falls, Belinda Dunn O’Neil and husband Tom of Wichita Falls, Beverly Dunn Andrews and husband Max of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Brian Gene Dunn and wife Sherry of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben O’Neil, Melody O’Neil Crawford, Robert O’Neil, Casey Sparks, Aaron Andrews, Adam Andrews, Gracie Dunn and Brendan Dunn as well as four great grandchildren Jack and Mike Crawford, Rowan O’Neil, and Aiden Andrews. He is also survived by a brother, David Dunn of Madill, Oklahoma.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th from 6 to 8 pm at Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home on Hwy 79 in Wichita Falls.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, September 12th at 2pm at Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home as well, with burial following at adjacent Crestview Cemetery. A reception at the funeral home will immediately follow.
Special thanks are offered by Bobby’s wife and children to their eldest son and sibling, Brandon Dunn, for his many years of loving care to both his parents. His contributions, devotion, and attentive care extended Bobby’s quality of life at home and provided a means for the family to best fulfill their desires to provide Bobby with comfort and care at the most difficult of times.
The family suggests any memorials be directed toward Hospice of Wichita Falls, Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, or Faith Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
