Antonia was born on June 14, 1931 in Ignacio Ramirez, Durango, Mexico: daughter of the late Jose Angel Guerrola and Juanita Guerrola. Antonia was raised with her seven siblings, who she loved dearly. While growing up in Ignacio Ramirez, Antonia was a teacher for four years. Wanting more in life Antonia decided to go to the United States in 1952. She ended up in Eagle Pass, Texas and while there met the love of her life, Pedro Velasquez. They married in 1954. In Eagle Pass they decided to stay and raise their 7 beautiful children until Pedro’s death in 1963. After her husband’s death, Antonia devoted her life to raising her children and instill values in them to succeed in life. She showed them that by hard work, love, and faith that anything is possible.
In 1977, she moved to the Wichita Falls area to be closer to her children. That is where she remained until her death. Our Mama loved the Lord and whenever visiting her, her strong faith was evident in her home. She was a friend to all and knew no stranger. To have been a family member or friend was a blessing.
Everyone who knew Antonia although small, was so full of life and beautiful. Our Mama started every day with a full face of makeup and her cafecito to be ready for the day. Her happiest moments were being surrounded by her family and friends, laughing and dancing the night away.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jose Angel and Juanita Guerrola; her loving husband: Pedro Velasquez and her seven siblings.
Mrs. Velasquez is survived by her seven loving children: daughter Virginia Garcia and spouse David; son Pete Velasquez; daughter Maricela Esquivel; son Rene Velasquez and spouse Lydia; daughter Nellie Razavizadeh and spouse Abdul; daughter Consuelo Rodriguez and spouse Manuel, all from Texas, and her son Jorge Valdez and spouse Melinda, from California; 18 adoring grandchildren: David Garcia, Kimberly Watkins, Geneva Velasquez, Francis Perez, Joe Esquivel, Jaime Esquivel, Jess Esquivel Fails, Monica Navarro, Veronica Velasquez, Rene Velasquez, Michael Razavizadeh, Shante Razavizadeh, Victor Rodriquez, Marco Rodriquez, Bianca Rodriquez, Marilyn Valdez, Melinda Valdez, and Georgie Valdez. As well as being blessed with thirty-six great grandchildren, who loved their great-abuelita very much.
