Thomas Jones, 83, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully at Community Medical Center in January 2025. Born in 1941 in Hazleton, PA, Tom moved to Trenton, NJ when he was a teenager. He enjoyed all sports and played baseball in his adolescence – showing his resilience and fighting spirit after battling polio as a young child.
Tom graduated from Trenton Central High School, Class of 1959. He was a history buff, excelling in historical and current events. Tom had a 44-year career with Shop Rite, starting at the Trenton Shop Rite on Calhoun St in 1960 and retiring from the Hillsborough Shop Rite in 2004, when he moved to Whiting, NJ.
Quiet by nature, Tom was soft-spoken yet quick-witted, never missing a beat. His blue eyes had a certain spark that could light up a room. Tom was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed watching old movies and television shows; his favorites were Perry Mason and Columbo. He loved watching sports, especially his favorite teams – the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and 76ers – and horse racing. As a young adult, Tom was a sports cars enthusiast, with his favorite being his gorgeous 1958 Chevy Impala red convertible.
Tom was known for his gentle and selfless nature, always putting others before himself. Nothing could match the tremendous love he had for his family, especially “his girls” – wife Patricia, daughter Tracy, and granddaughter Samantha – who were the light of his life. One of five siblings, countless days were spent sharing meals, special moments and daily interactions with immediate and extended family.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Jones and Eleanor (Jones) Kress, and his beloved sister Joyce Kraus. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia, daughter Tracy Jones, granddaughter Samantha Henrikson, brother Joseph Jones, sisters Ann Pape and Eileen (Jim) Bell, brothers-in-law Theodore (Peggy) Fischer and Charles Fischer, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting, NJ. A link to view the service will be provided by the family on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice in his honor.
