Nancy Ellen Fiske resident of 85 Sunset Road, Whiting, New Jersey and wife of Lamont L. Blowe departed this life on June 30, 2024. She was born June 24, 1955 in Concord, Massachusetts, the second of George (deceased) and Lois Fiske’s four children.
A celebration of life will be held 10 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church Bloomfield, 1 Washington Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey, 07003.
During her lifetime, Nancy was an environmental educator, business owner and realtor. She grew up in Basking Ridge, NJ and maintained lifelong connections to her high school friends and former colleagues at the Environmental Education Center in town. After accepting Christ as a teenager, Nancy began a life of service in many areas of the church including youth leader, nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, and deaconess. She had a lifelong passion to be a true steward of the planet the Lord created. Nancy shared her wisdom and knowledge of God’s creation with all those she knew and met. After earning a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Delaware, Nancy did graduate work at Montclair State University. She was a member of MENSA and numerous professional environmental associations. Nancy’s early career was in environmental education: she directed programs at zoos, the Audubon Society, other non-profits and a company which specialized in African tours. This gave her the opportunity to travel to many areas including Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize, Scotland and Kenya, while her later career as co-owner of the Pillars of Plainfield Bed and Breakfast allowed her Christian faith to touch visitors from across the United States as well as the world. In retirement her conservation efforts continued in converting her and Lamont’s home into an environmentally responsible habitat for flora and fauna.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 24 years Lamont Blowe, her mother Lois Fiske (nee Jackson) of Fairfield Connecticut, and siblings Linda Rapp (Gary) of Temple Texas; Jeffrey Fiske, PhD. of Williamsburg, Virginia; Wendy Christian (Dan) of Fairfield, Connecticut; as well as sisters-in-law Vanessa Blowe MD, Paulette Blowe PhD., and Melanie Speller. She is also missed by her numerous loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Bloomfield for restoration of their stained-glass windows which held great significance in Nancy and Lamont’s wedding. Services can be viewed online on YouTube by selecting First Baptist Church Bloomfield, New Jersey.
