Born in Newark in 1937, she often spoke fondly of her childhood there in the 40’s and 50’s. It was there that she met her husband Jerry. They were married in 1956 and soon moved to Brick Township, where they raised their family. Joan’s was a life of kindness and generosity. She lived as she taught her boys to live, by treating others as you wish to be treated. Joan was a proud survivor of cancer, beating the disease at a young age. She loved to read, to shop (she loved a good flea market), and to knit for her newborn grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Like her father, she could spend all day in the pool. But most of all she loved her five boys, her “guys.”
Joan is survived by her husband Jerry, their five sons: Jerry (Pat), Tommy (Anna), Kevin (Sharon), Denny and John, and by her twin brother Charles. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Frances Chapman, her sisters Delores and Mary, and her brother John, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by the nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild she helped teach how to love.
The family is grateful to the nurses and aides who cared for our loved one.
