Gerald M. Dowgin, 77, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Gerald was born in Teaneck and grew up in Dayton, NJ. He graduated from South Brunswick High School, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and working on sets for school plays. He went on to graduate from Ryder College with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Administration. During that time, he enlisted and served nine years in the United States Army Reserves.
Gerald’s first job out of college was working as a tax analyst in the Research and Statistics Section of the Division of Taxation. He later transferred to the Office of Legislative Services (OLS) to work as a Senior Fiscal Analyst in the Local Property Division, where he created, among many bills, the Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement) that reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence (main home).

Gerald loved riding his 1965 Honda Scrambler. Together with his beloved motorcycle, he appeared in several magazines. Gerald, or Jerry, as his friend's called him, also wrote a book called Yes Santa about Rudolph's quest to keep faith in the off-season. He could usually be found riding to Hot Diggidy Dog in Chatsworth or Lucille’s in Warren Grove. After retiring, he and his wife purchased an RV, joined Twentieth Century Wagontrainers (TCW), and enjoyed traveling across the country and attending many RV rallies together. During their travels, they especially loved spending winters in Camelot at Malabar, Florida. Gerald was also a member of the New Jersey Antique Radio Club and liked spending his free time fixing old radios and having conversations on ham radio (KB2EZE). Every couple of months, he would meet up with the "Football Guys” and their coach from South Brunswick High School for lunch and to reminisce about their high school days. Gerald’s greatest joy was spending time with his family; he will be missed dearly.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Ralph & Florence Dowgin, and his two brothers, Ralph Dowgin and Edward Dowgin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Karin; his two sons, Christopher Dowgin and Erik Dowgin, and his wife Tracy; and his three grandchildren, Madsen, Delaney, and Rex. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria, her husband, Webb Griffith, and several nieces and nephews.
