Wayne Leo Johnson passed away at his home in Lakewood, CO on January 12, 2024 at the age of 78. He was surrounded by family who had been taking care of him as he fought complications from COPD and lung cancer. Through his illness he maintained his positive attitude, the joy of seeing friends who visited and his sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife Ramona Johnson of Lakewood, CO, his daughter Cattie Callaway (Travis Bennett) of Ramah, CO, his grandson Andrew Calloway (Emma) of Ramah, CO, his stepchildren Melvin Serrano (Maryjane) of Espanola, NM, Andrew Serrano of Santa Fe, NM, Liza Serrano of Santa Fe, NM. Step-grandchildren Andres Serrano of Santa Fe, NM, Andrea Serrano (Joel Eugarrio) of Las Vegas, NV, Brandon Serrano of Espanola, NM, Roderick Lopez of Las Vegas, NV, Adrianna Serrano of Santa Fe, NM, Brianna Serrano of Espanola, NM and step-great grandchildren Isaiah, Abigial, Jayden, Aiden, Brayden, Elijah, Brody, Joy and Vanesah. Also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents James William Johnson and Ruth Charlotte McVay Johnson, his older brother William Ross Johnson and his younger sister Marlene Sue Johnson.
Wayne was born in Greenfield, Iowa on December 12, 1945. When he was a sophomore in highschool, he moved to Denver, CO with his mother and his younger sister. He graduated from East High School in Denver in 1963, then joined the Navy serving his country for 4 years as an electrician. He worked for Coors Brewery for 7 years, then Denver Burglar Alarm for 31 years retiring in 2003. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and yard work for himself and for others. He also turned his love of driving into a fun adventure for himself by being an Uber driver.
Wayne's enlightening conversations, laughter, and sense of fellowship will be missed dearly by his many friends and family.
Funeral service, officiated by Pastor Joe Beach, will be held at 10:30 on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Amazing Grace Church at 3325 South Federal Boulevard, Englewood, CO. His final resting place will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
