Virginia was born September 3, 1926 to Harry and Maglona Hovey in Denver, Colorado. Virginia lived a long, rich life filled with family, friends, travel, activism and crossword puzzles. She was most happy surrounded by family and friends when she gathered them for celebrations on her backyard deck.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Shanks, their first-born child, “Baby Dickie”, her brother, Dick, and many other dear family and friends. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Steve Shanks (Lisa) of Amarillo, Texas, Janis Shanks Ferrell (Rick) of Denver and Mary Beth Thorn (Skip) of Albuquerque New Mexico, her beloved 7 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and their children and grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time. The family plans to gather in Virginia’s memory when the risk of Covid19 has passed. To honor Virginia’s memory, please, share kindness, meaningful conversation and offer an open heart and mind to all you meet.
The family is grateful for the care and attention to Virginia by the medical staff and caregivers at Montage Hills and the outpouring of love, support and memorial stories from family and friends.
