She was born in Taos, New Mexico to Fidel and Ophelia Archuleta. In 1958, she graduated from North High School in Denver where she met the love of her life, Dennis, whom she married on June 3, 1961. They enjoyed a long happy marriage of 57 years.
Sylvia and Dennis had their 3 children in Denver where she stayed home and cared for the children. Later they moved to Strasburg where they helped care for a 1,300-acre farm learning valuable lessons living the country life. In 1976, they settled in Grand Junction where Sylvia worked at City Market for 24 years until she retired. Many customers would wait in a longer checkout line just to go through her lane.
Sylvia and Dennis loved playing games with the “gang”, and also enjoyed card games and puzzles with their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, making wonderful meals and baked goods, especially cookies. Her discipline was inspiring as she faithfully got up every day and did her exercises and the work ethic that was taught to all the kids was unprecedented.
Sylvia always looked so beautiful, she touched countless people with her infectious smile. She loved God and accepted the Lord as her Savior and was always concerned for others to be saved. She regularly attended Pear Park Baptist Church for many years where she has so many close and dear friends. Even with her eye sight failing she made it a point to sit and read her Bible regularly.
Sylvia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister and is survived by her son Kevin and wife Rosalie, son Dean and wife Kristine, and daughter Deanna. She adored her grandchildren Lanie, Barry, Lexi, Jessica, Amanda and Tony and her great-grandchildren Elise, Ian, Cambri and twins Rory and Adeline, Marccus, Aidan, Mariah and Omar, and many nieces and nephews, a brother Eli Herrera.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dennis who passed in February 2019, two sisters, Julia Trujillo and Cleo Montoya and brother, Fidel Archuleta.
She will be missed greatly.
