Shirley was born on August 30, 1930 in Denver, Colorado, to Ralph Theodore Prewitt and Eula Mae Turner Prewitt. A Colorado native, she lived her entire life in the Wheatridge and Arvada area.
Shirley was very active at Wheatridge High School where she was a majorette and queen of the Blue and Gold, graduating in 1948. On July 18, 1948, Shirley married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hartung at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Colorado. Bob and Shirley were active members for over 40 years serving the church and school until Bob’s passing in 1989.
Motherhood and homemaking were her chosen profession. Shirley loved her family dearly and made it a priority to support and encourage her five young children in their every endeavor; never missing a school, church, athletic, or milestone event.
Family vacations, reunions, holidays, and events connecting family and friends were her joy.
She enjoyed many activities including sewing, crafting, reading, puzzles and dominoes. She loved music and sing-alongs with her friends.
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, neighbor, and friend.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Robert, infant son Nicholas, and all six siblings; Donald, Eleanor (Seyfer), Marilyn (Kunz), Dale, Jackie and Rodney.
She is survived by her children; Karl Hartung, Kristy (Tim) Timmons, Philip (Lani) Hartung, Allan (Julie) Hartung, Martin Hartung, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many cherished family members and friends.
