Michael was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC on February 2nd, 1956. Michael’s father, James (Jimmy) Masten, was from Harrington, Delaware and his mother Gene Greenfeld Masten from Wilmington, Delaware. After he was born, the family moved to El Paso, Texas as his father was in the military.
Michael married the love of his life Maria Denikos on May 25, 1980. They met through mutual friends in 1978, began dating in 1979 and tied the knot in 1980. They bought their first house together in Adelphi, MD just over the hill from the University of Maryland where he developed his love of Ledo’s Pizza.
Michael is survived by his wife Maria, their son Michael James, their daughter-in-law Sarah, grandchildren Nicholas (13), Zachary (10) and Madeleine (10), two sisters: Stephany Faulkner (Robert Faulkner) and Patti Wecker (Stephen Wecker). Between them Michael had 12 nieces and nephews: Michael (predeceased), Ashley, Anthony, Abby, Aimee, Christian, Ryan, Steven Michael, Faith, Joy, Jacob, Bethany and many great nieces and nephews.
Michael was a highly regarded Security Industry Executive. Michael spent 35 years working for the world’s largest security equipment distributor: ADI. He played several major roles in the mid-Atlantic territory and then moved to the company’s headquarters to run the nationwide training department. Michael never met a stranger. He made friends and earned respect from every person he ever met – that is who he was. Michael additionally brought many young people into the security industry. Each one was given his special attention, and he made sure they each succeeded. Along with all of endeavors, he earned his college degree in 2009.
During his life he was an avid collector – baseball cards, baseballs, whiskey, coins to name a few. He amassed quite a collection over his 68 years. Michael retired in 2022 with many plans for his future. He loved to travel visiting such places as Puerto Rico, Key West, Ireland, England, Scotland and 47 out of the 50 states. He was always looking toward the future!
