Mary Louise Jones, aged 90, passed peacefully on November 19, 2017, at Atria Park of Applewood, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mary was born on July 23, 1927, in Topeka, KS, the daughter of John Maus and Maude D. (Chiddix) Maus.
Mary was raised on the family farm in Rossville, KS, with her older sister, Thelma and her brother, John. She was on the girls’ basketball team and played cornet in the Rossville High School band. After graduating in 1946, Mary moved to Topeka, KS and worked in a bank.
In 1948, Mary married Francis G. Cope, they moved to a San Diego, CA, and had three daughters. Moving to Denver, CO, in 1955, the couple later divorced. Mary worked as a bookkeeper and raised her daughters. She married Lee Smith, Jr. in 1965, and the family, including his young son, moved to a horse property in the mountains of Gilpin County, CO. When the children were grown, the couple moved to Byers, CO, where Lee died in 1987. Mary married Sherman C. Jones in 1991, and they resided in Eaton, CO, until his death in 2012.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Marilyn S. Cope of Lakewood, CO; Carolyn K. (William) Rech of Golden, CO; Debra J. (Michael) Bliss of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Kristin (Rob) Rodgers, Jeremy (Sheryl) Weissel, Jeffrey (Shantane) Farden, Hilary (Rob) Irvin, Ben (Austyn) Jenkins; great grandchildren, Tynessa Radtke, Kameron Olson, Taryn Weissel, Joe Bradley, Mariah Farden, Samantha Strohschein, Rayne and Teagan Rodgers, Jayden and Maddison Irvin, Henry and Jack Jenkins; her stepchildren, Danny Smith and family, Susan Jones Havekost and family, Gene Jones and family; and by numerous Cope and Maus family members.
Mary was a beloved mother, step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
A public viewing will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary from 2:30-5:00pm on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
Mary’s funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, November 26th, at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion, 7777 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Lunch reception to follow.
