Karen Mae Stevenson

After a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis, Karen Mae Stevenson, nee Lierman, age 84, beloved wife of Robert Stevenson for almost 64 years, passed on from this life quietly and peacefully surrounded by family and friends in the early morning of March 7, 2022 at her residence in Denver, Colorado.

Karen was born in Frontier County, Nebraska on February 22, 1938. She was born to Raymond Lierman and Mae Earll. She had an older brother, Elroy Lierman who was two years her senior. She used to tell the story about riding her horse to school, and every now and then it would spook, throw them and run home, causing them to walk back home.

She went to a one room school house in Frontier County and eventually graduated from Cozad High School, Cozad, Nebraska, in 1955. She then attended a year at Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska after which she began working for the VA in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1956.

She met her husband, Robert Stevenson, in Lincoln and were married in May of 1958. They then moved to Denver, Colorado in 1963 and had three children.

Karen worked for Home Health Professionals in Englewood, CO for 30 years as a secretary.

Karen enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, sewing, and macrame. Before she was diagnosed with MS, she enjoyed horseback riding, bowling, and dancing with her husband at the Edelweiss Club. Up until her death, she enjoyed getting together with close friends for dinner and game nights.

She is survived by her husband Robert Stevenson, her brother Elroy Lierman, sons Gregory Stevenson and Scott Stevenson, and daughter, Julie Stevenson (Wicken), grandchildren, Joseph Stevenson, Cody Wicken, Cayla Wicken, Chelsey Wicken (Oxford) and Shailah Stevenson along with niece Sue Lierman (Moore), nephew Michael Lierman, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Lierman, Mae Lierman, and grandchildren, Christopher Stevenson and David Stevenson.

Services will be held at Mt. Lindo Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, June 8th at 2:00 PM.
