Hi mom.  It's Christmas time again, your favorite holiday.  You always said that red is a necessary color for decorating for Christmas.  Es un color muy alegre! You are central to everything I do.  Your influence, traditions, teachings, sayings...you are in everything I do. So, cards are sent, gifts are wrapped, lights are lit....but my Christmas lights will never be as bright or as brilliant as when you lit them.  I love you mom.  I miss you.

With tears in my eyes, thinking of you during this Christmas season, I remember the many memories of us talking about wrapping presents, not sending out the Christmas cards yet, etc. Miss you sis.

Hi Mommy: Yesterday was such a hard day for all of us. I took the girls to spend the day with dad and really praying that the sun would come out. When you moved to heaven, the day was gloomy and raining. When I called dad at about 2:15, he and the girls were sitting outside. The sun did come out. :) When I got to the house, I had to swallow back the tears. As I walked in the house, yes even with the girls making such a big fuss, I could see you sitting in your favorite chair. Ernest had bought flowers in your memory and put them next to your beautiful picture. There isn't a day that I don't think of you and miss you. People would always say "it will get easier" but it really doesn't, we just learn to deal. Just know that I Love You so much. Miss you more than you'll ever know.

It's been three years since you went to heaven but it feels like it was yesterday.  We miss you so much.  Love you!

Hi mom Mestas, you sure are missed.  I guess by now you know that Uncle Mike was found to be cancer free.  A miracle from God.  I know that makes you happy.  Mom Mestas my only regret in you moving to heaven is that I have missed out in conversations with you.  I make dad and everyone laugh a lot and I know you would be laughing too.  Oh wait a minute you probably do here me huh?  Mom thank you for loving me and thank you for bringing me into the family.  I will always hold you in my heart, forever.

Merry Christmas Mommy!!!! Well the trees are decorated, the lights are strung outside. They look beautiful all the colors, even after having to change the lights several times due to blowing out the fuses. You would think that our lights would light up the entire sky. Oh and the crazy squirrels have managed to eat the lights on the deck. We were finally able to fix those lights. Santa (Ernest) has made gingerbread men and biscochitos. Yum your favorites. Chot keeps us all laughing. Mom it's been another hard time here without you. Just going shopping, I have run into things that I know you would love. Mom we continue to try and find a new normal. We will go to your house tonight after church. Then back over tomorrow. Ernest will be cooking. Dad tries hard to keep it together. You are so missed. I miss you so much. We continue to hold on to when we'll see you again. Mommy I love you so much. Merry Christmas!!!

Hi Sis - Happy Birthday!  I keep getting older and you are still the same!  If we keep this up, I'm going to catch up with you.  Missing you everyday but as your birthday and the holiday season comes around - I MISS you a lot!  Seeing the Christmas decorations that I either got from you or that you gave me, all the memories makes this a difficult time of the year.  God is still with us and blessing us every day - Love you!

Hi Mommy!!!! Well tomorrow's Halloween. You knew how much Ernest and I loved this holiday. You would always make it so special for us. Letting us dress crazy, and have a great time. I even remember that you and dad would dress up. So we continue to bring out all the Halloween decorations, and continue the tradition. Mom not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I miss you so much. :( Love you with all my heart....

We are very sorry to hear about Josie.  Our hope is that everyone else is doing well.  It's been many years but we never forgot your wonderful family.  We regret we lost contact with you over the years.

Hi Mom. Here we are approaching Christmas, your favorite holiday.  You made it mine too because all Christmases with you in them were magical and bright. You knew how to make each one special....I suppose because your childhood was interrupted by the death of your father at a very early age...You became that source of inspiration for all of us and now, we continue your legacy.  Everything proceeds as you taught us and the traditions you handed down are still within us and evident in how we celebrate this season. The tree is up, lights are on, shopping is complete and we (the 3 of us now) gravitate together, closer and tighter than ever before.  I went shopping and I found 100 and ten things that I know you would have liked...of course a lot of bling!!!! This  year, if I could have just one wish come true....of course it would be YOU.  Thank you for my 58+ years of having the most perfect, happiest and warmest Christmases ever. This year, with  heavy hearts and a longing for your hugs, we celebrate as a family, grateful for your love, inspiration and missing your physical presence more than anyone will ever know. Hi Mom Mestas, its Thanksgiving week.  I wish you were here.  But I know you are in a better place.  I miss my mom too.  I guess you both are having a great time huh?  I wish I was.  Its so lonesome here without you both and I know I shouldn't be selfish I know you are in a better place, you and my mom.  I just miss you both.  I am grateful though for the goodness that God gave you and my mom, for the love, patience and tolerance you showed all of us.  My mom, ay Dios Mio, she did a lot of tolerating with me.  But I suppose you already know that huh? Mom Mestas I want you to know just how sorry I am that you moved away because I was really looking forward to spending time with you and dad Mestas.  I retire you know at the end of December from State service, here in California.  You know THE GREAT STATE OF CALIFORNIA.... :)  I'm looking forward to my move, no mom NOT THAT MOVE, I'm taking about moving to Aurora, CO.  Well mom, and mom, I am grateful to God for all the love you gave me and I want you to know that above all else you and my mom are the best blessings in my life, ever. Hi Mom Mestas, I sit here and think of you a lot sometimes and my mom too.  I know that you and mom just moved away, but sometimes some of us aren't ready for change.... mom and you, now that was a big change for everyone involved because you were both such strong figures in our lives.  I want mom and you to know that you are both so loved and truly missed.  Kathy told me that its your 60th wedding anniversary today.  Congrats Mom Mestas.  And mom, I miss you and love you. Hi mom,
Was thinking really hard about mom and you.  It doesn't really seem that long ago that I saw you, talked to you, mom too.  I remember the beautiful memories and I thank God for them.  Mom I bet you have already met my mom huh?  She's to much huh? Come on admit it…. I talk to her a lot in my letters to her, but I suppose you know that.  She shares them with you huh, and in ENGLISH huh? Mom never spoke a correct English word in her life… but in Heaven, everything is perfect and the language is that of angels huh?  
This year you took your first step into Heaven on May 12th, and my mom took her first step on June 6th. You were 78 and mom was 88.  But I suppose age has nothing to do with anything when God calls you home.  I just wanted to tell you mom that I sure do miss you as I do my mom.  Sometimes I know I don't understand things and don't have any answers to my questions about why you both had to leave…I guess that old human part of me tends to come out every so often.  But I want you to know that I am like 93.5% percent ok with you both leaving because I know you are both in a better place.   I mean even if I tried to stop you both from taking that first step… what could I have done huh?   
One more thing mom I want you to know that if my mom is telling you stuff about me, even the most insignificant thing, my mom is like the internet ok, don't believe everything you hear, ok…. LOLOL just kidding…   Mom is so true to herself.  She and I use to have such a great time.  I remember up mom, the last time I saw you, as soon as I came in the door, the first thing you said was, “when are you coming back?”  And you would raise your arms to me to come to you.  That was so beautiful to me.  You always did and said things that endeared you to me.  I have been blessed for the rest of my life to have known you mom.  
Well, I guess I better go now.  I have to get up for work.  Remember that I love you, remember that you will always be in my heart, and remember that I've been good, really.  Mom will tell ya that.  Hummmmm on second thought don't ask her ok.
Thanks for being my other mom, mom.  Can you do me a favor and tell my mom that when I get to Heaven, (and I am going okkkkkkaaayy), tell her that I will love her until the end of the end, infinity times infinity.  Tell her to make sure and keep an eye out on my siblings, they really need to be watched over.  Mom you make sure and keep those white feathers super clean ok, and please tell mom the same.
Always remember that someone in San Diego is thinking about you always, tell my mom the same for me ok.

Mommie!!!! I'm missing you so much. I miss talking to you, and just being able to laugh with you. It's been over a month, and it still doesn't seem real. We all wait for you to call. We go into the house, and expect to see you. Just know, that you left us with so many wonderful memories. Would still love to sit and hold your hand, and tell you that I love you..... Love you so much!!!!

I remember,when I was lost and experiencing frustration in finding Christ and Sister Josie Mestas really showed me what the love of the Lord Jesus Christ really as well as her Husband Frank Mestas, her son and her daughter Kathy. May God bestow great blessings upon the Mestas Family.

To the Mestas Family....No more pain, no more tears.  She is in a better place now.  She is joyful in the presence of God.  She will be missed so much.  Always remember that the Rios Family in San Diego, CA is praying for you all.  Love you, Chot.
