Joe Roberts, a native Coloradan, passed away on January 25, 2015. A devoted and faithful husband and father who believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Joe was born in Denver on June 28, 1923. He moved with his family to Wichita, Kansas where he attended junior high and high school. A star running back, he attended Kansas University on a football scholarship prior to the war. When drafted, he served in the Army as a mortar man under General Patton who he admired. When the war in Europe ended, he was reassigned in Japan as part of the occupying forces.
After the war he attended college at Denver University earning his Bachelor’s Degree and later taught at Golden HS. He met Jeannette Brendemuhl, also a teacher, and married Jeannette on December 30, 1950. Together they had 3 children, David, Kristi and MaryJo. Joe was awarded his Master’s Degree from DU in 1963 and accepted a position at CSU in the Vocational Ed Department. Joe was an extremely effective and dedicated teacher who mentored his students throughout his career. He retired from CSU in 1983 shortly after the death of Jeannette.
His retirement years were very active as he volunteered in hospitals, taught Vocational Education in the prison system, participated in cardiac rehab, and attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years. He was devoted to caring for his daughter MaryJo who passed away after a long illness in 1998. During this time he played an active role in the lives of his 7 grandchildren spending his time in Miami, North Carolina and Idaho.
In 1999 he met and married Ruth Cutter Roberts and returned to Colorado where he spent the remainder of his life and was extremely happy. He enjoyed fishing, pro and college sports, attending cardiac rehab in Fort Collins, was active in his church in Loveland and sharing his twilight years with his beloved Ruth and her daughter Carrie.
Joe is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, David Roberts and wife, Melinda; daughter, Kristi Burns and husband, Robert; and grandchildren, Nicki Titsworth and husband, Christopher, Erik and Haley Roberts, and Matthew, Tim and Patrick Burns.
Visitation 5-7pm, Friday, January 30, 2015 and Funeral Service 2:30pm, Saturday, January 31, 2015, both at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary with burial to follow at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery.
