John Rivera

1931-2022

John passed away peacefully at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood on February 16, 2022, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his family who supported him as he courageously battled complications brought on by the COVID virus.

In his free time, John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His family will remember him as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, bird watching, working on cars, woodworking and going to church.

John lived a long and productive life. He was born in 1931 in Las Animas County, CO to his parents, John and Cecilia Rivera. His siblings include sisters Nelly (deceased), Ida (deceased), and Isabel – brothers Ben (deceased), and August. He was married to his wife Gloria in Trinidad, CO, in April 1953. He is survived by his children: Gerri Trujillo (Danny), Cindy Phelps (Gus), Shelley Trujillo (Frank), and John Rivera (Denice). John is also survived by eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

John completed high school, military training and learned many of the trade skills throughout the years. He honorably served his country in the Colorado Army National from October 1949 through October 1955. His many employment positions include working as an experienced carpenter, builder, electrician, and Teamsters truck driver.

John’s rosary service will start at 9:30 am and the funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22 at the Church of All Saints, 2559 S Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80219, with a reception to follow.
