James Kobos, age 70, of Commerce City, Colorado passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. The impact that he had on people's lives and the amount he will be missed can best be described by the person that knew him best-his wife of 36 years, Cindy:
On May 15, Jim and I celebrated 36 years of marriage. On July 14, he took his last breath and I said goodbye. He fought a very long and courageous battle with throat cancer and then lung cancer. He was a warrior in his illness and his life. He was a warrior in his illness and his life. He was a simple man who did not like accolades and atta boys. He worked for 17 years at Sherwin Williams automotive paint, a job he loved with people he loved. He could chat it up with everybody from the company CEO to the helpers in the shop. I believe the reason he loved this job so much is that every day of the week he helped somebody solve a problem. He loved educating them on everything about paint and body. It was a topic he knew so well from his 50+ years in the business. He never not answered a phone call even if it was a weekend or if he was on vacation.
He had a heart the size of Texas. In March of 205 we packed up, sold our home, transferred his job to Denver and moved into my Mom’s house to care for her. He gave up his life and friends in Texas to help mine in Colorado. He loved our neighbors and would help them with yard work or repairs. He was just that kind of guy. He made friends with other patients at the cancer center as well as his doctors and all the infusions nurses. His work and the satisfaction he gained from it is what kept him going. He absolutely loved it. I cannot imagine my life without him in it. This world lost a bright light that touched all who knew him. I love him with my whole heart. I am numb and overwhelmed with sadness. But I know he’s in heaven wrecking havoc with his little bro David and his best friend Bob the crazy Cajun. I also know he was welcomed to a sweet reunion with both of our sets of parents.
I love you forever Cowboy.
Jim Kobos, cancer warrior.
