Betty L. Cochran died on January 8, 2016. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, November 10 1927 to Albert (Jack) and Gladys (Payne) Valentine. She attended schools in Detroit and when she graduated from high school was employed at a brokerage firm for a short time. When her family moved to a farming community in northern Michigan she followed them.
She married Jack C. Cochran on August 17, 1946 in Gladwin, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 2003. They moved to Midland, Michigan where they made their home until the retired in 1983 and moved to Arvada, Colorado. They had three children, Kathy Lynn Cochran Scott who is deceased; Jacque Sue and Donald Harrison of Frederick, Colorado; Daniel Charles and Sheila Cochran, Westminster, Colorado.-
Mrs. Cochran worked at the Midland Hospital for four and a half years before going to the Midland Daily News where she worked for 25 years. She began as a proof reader and teletype operator, then as a librarian and finally as the woman’s editor.
In addition to her two children, she is survived by her grandchildren Julie Wormell of Johnstown, Colorado: Kaitlyn and Sarah Cochran, Westminster, Colorado; Kimberly Lambert, Gwinn, Michigan’ seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Dale Valentine of St. James City, Florida nephews Jon and Paul Valentine of Michigan and a niece, Theresa Olson of Bainbridge, Washington.
Celebration of life will be at 10:00am on Monday, January 18 at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion of Reflection with reception to follow. Betty will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
