Kenneth Carlton Hopkins

Kenneth Carlton Hopkins, 95, of Willow Estates, and formerly of Weyers Cave, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
A son of the late Carlton and Rella Rae Richardson Hopkins, he was born on December 27, 1926 in Roanoke, VA.
In 1962 he started as the chief electrician at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC and later served as manager of the stadium from 1974 – 1982.
After retiring from RFK stadium Kenneth and his wife moved to the Weyers Cave area in 1982 where they were members of the Bethany United Methodist Church.
Kenneth was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and studying history, especially the Civil War and reading history books and National Geographic magazines. Mr. Hopkins also proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
On October 22, 1948 he married Lorraine Dorothy Beall Hopkins, who preceded him in death on February 16, 2016.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Carlton Hopkins and wife, Glenda of Mt. Airy, MD and Thomas Stuart Hopkins and wife, Shari of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren, Meredith Winebrunner and husband, Mark of Finksburg, MD, Andy Hopkins, of North Carolina, and Nicole Hopkins, of Frederick, MD; four great-grandchildren, Ryley and Ryan Winebrunner, and Drew and Oakley Rae Hopkins; and two brothers, Edward Hopkins and wife, Charlotte of Weyers Cave and Frederick Hopkins, of Harrisonburg.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Hopkins, a brother-in-law, Eugene E. Beall and a niece, Sharon Hopkins Coffman.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 11:00 am, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Mt. Crawford, with Pastor Blaine Thomas officiating. Military honors will be by the U. S. Navy.
