Joe was surrounded by his family when he passed away November 7, 2013 after a very brief battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Muriel Colby; mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Minnie Wilson; brother Marvin Colby; brothers in law, Ralph Tanner, Dave Middleton, Harold Janecke, Robert Wilson, Larry Buck and sister-in-law, Margaret Rose Wilson. Joe was born in Crystal City, MB on June 1, 1929. He was raised in the Golden Prairie District and his love of the western way of life led him to a position with the PFRA in 1958. In 1964 he became a pasture manager and moved his family to the Broadview area. Nineteen hundred and seventry-three saw another move to the Tecumseh Pasture near Forget and in 1998 he retired to Stoughton. Dad was a family man and a true cowboy, always there to lend a helping hand. He was also a man of few words, but never short of a story. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn; children, Sheila (Murray Shiplack); Dale (Laurette); Wayne (Donna) and Glen (Ethel); grandchildren, Jeremy, Lee, Kristin, Curtis, Jessica, Tyson, Kyle and Shaelyn and great grandson Blake; sisters, Lorraine Tanner, Shirley Middleton and Frances Janecke; sisters-in-law Theresa Colby and Irene Buck, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation took place November 12 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. A Celebration of Joe’s life was held at 11:00 a.m. on November 13 from Grace United Church, Stoughton, with Reverend Elizabeth Goodson officiating. Interment followed at Gap View Cemetery in the RM of Tecumseh, Forget. If friends so desire, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Stoughton Ambulance Fund, PO Box 282, Stoughton, SK S0G 4T0.
