Paul Howard Young

1922 ~ 2017

Paul Howard Young, 94, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2017 in Edmonton. He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Florence Young; wife, Pearl (Smith) Young; his daughter, Joyce; brothers, David, Raymond, John and H. Gordon; sisters, Gladys Tallman, Nellie Silljer, Ruby Feicht, and Verna Westling.

Paul was born and raised in Khedive, Saskatchewan on September 28, 1922 to Jesse and Florence Young. Paul joined the Air Force in 1942, serving in Canada, England and Germany. On his return in 1946 he married Pearl Smith in Summerside, Prince Edward Island and they moved to Midale, Saskatchewan where they farmed for the next 50 years. Paul was very active in the community; serving on the Wheat Pool Committee, Civic Centre Building Committee, Midale Telephone and Credit Union Board. He was a Volunteer Fireman, and member of the United Church, Weyburn Elks, Midale Legion and Midale Curling Club. He enjoyed playing baseball, curling, dancing, golfing, travelling and playing cards. Paul and Pearl spent many winters at their place in Phoenix.

Paul is survived by his children, Paulette (Allan) Emmerson, Jim (Shari), Judy (Dick) Teshima, and Kevin Young; grandchildren, Shari (Warren) Powers, Karen (Dave) Eger, Jarret (Candace) Young, Andrew Young, Tami (Steve) Mawson, Laura Teshima; great-grandchildren; William, Amanda, Allysia, Brett, Kaylin and Ty; his sister, Gertrude Jones; his friend, Diana Hamil and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul will also be missed by his many friends both here and in Phoenix.

A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. A Private Family Interment will take place at Westphalia Cemetery, Midale, Saskatchewan. Fellowship will follow the service at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

Friends so wishing may make donations in memory of Paul to the Alzheimer Society. Our thanks to Maria, Dennie and Divina who cared for Dad at his home for 5 years and the staff at Exquisicare in Edmonton for the care they have given our Dad over the past year.
