Ryan Christopher Costello, 23, of Wethersfield, beloved son of Christopher and Tammy (Campbell) Costello, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 18, 2019 in New Zealand. Ryan was born in Hartford on June 13, 1996 and was a 2014 graduate of Wethersfield High School. An extremely talented baseball player, he enrolled at Central Connecticut State University, where he played for three years before being drafted by the Seattle Mariners at the end of his junior year in 2017. In 2018, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins and was promoted in 2019 to their Double-A affiliate, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. At the time of his death, Ryan was preparing to start the Australian Baseball League season with the Auckland Tuatara. When he wasn’t giving 150% to baseball, he was just as passionate and competitive while bass fishing or online gaming.
Ryan will be forever missed by his loving parents at home in Wethersfield; his brother, Michael Harrison of Berlin; his paternal grandfather, James Costello of Wethersfield and his grandmother, Karen (Bigelow) Costello, also of Wethersfield; his maternal grandfather, James and his wife Deborah (Lux) Campbell and his grandmother, Darlene (Schmidt) Irwin, all of Wisconsin; a step-grandmother, Debra (Moran) Costello of Glastonbury and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends from high school and college, as well as his minor and major league teammates and coaches. He was sadly predeceased by his infant nephew, Matthew Michael Harrison.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Central Connecticut State University, Student Center - Alumni Hall, 105 Ella Grasso Boulevard, New Britain, CT 06050.
