Richard “Dick” Stanley Miller, 73, of East Hartford and formerly of Glastonbury, departed this life on August 13, 2024, after an extended illness. Richard was born on December 31, 1950 in New York. He was welcomed home by his loving parents, Arline (Graybill) Miller and Robert S. Miller. Richard, known as Dick to his family, became the big brother to his younger siblings Cynthia and Andrew. Richard grew up in Leavittown, NY, Greenwich and Glastonbury. At Glastonbury High School, Richard excelled in baseball, football and wrestling and received the very first Hartwell Baseball Award in 1969. He went on to attend Ithaca College and Central Connecticut State University. After college, Richard worked for many years at Glastonbury Automotive before retiring.
Richard loved all sports, but especially the New York Yankees and UCONN Women’s Basketball. He attended many NCAA Final Four tournaments with his daughter Mikki. In the last few years, with his health declining, he took great joy in spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
His cousin Doug remembered Dick as “authentic and generous” and someone who “wore his heart on his sleeve”. Dick loved to offer help to his friends and was truly generous to a fault.
Richard leaves to mourn his passing his beloved and devoted daughter, Mikki Oliveira of East Hartford and her children Tyler, Isabella, and Gabrielle with whom he shared his home; daughter, Montria Taylor and her husband Scott along with their children Samantha, Kailey and Jace, formerly of Pinedale, Wyoming. He also leaves his sister, Cindy Baril and husband Joe Baril of Groton and his brother, Andrew Miller and wife Barbara Sobieski of Glastonbury; nephews, Evan Miller and William O’Berne; niece, Avalee Miller and loving cousins in Delaware, Florida and Wyoming. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his son-in-law, Gerry Oliveira and niece, Christine Bardales. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends he made during his lifetime.
Calling hours for Richard will be on Thursday, August 22, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. concluding with a Memorial Service at 12 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
