Raymond “Ray” Paul Rolando, 71, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of East Hartford, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024 in Sherman Home, Phoenix, AZ surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Debra (Smith) Rolando. Ray was born November 20, 1952, raised in Hartford, and one of four children to the late Angelo and Norma (Pasccuci) Rolando. He attended Weaver High School, was a star athlete on the football team, and graduated Class of 1970.
He married Debra in 1974 and out of this union came Michael, Anthony and Christina. He was a devoted father, always present for every milestone, big or small, he was their greatest champion, sharing in their joys, comforting them in their struggles, and showing them every day what it means to be truly loved.
An industrious businessman, Ray had a successful career in the Transportation and Security industries. He humbly started off as a cab driver (Yellow Cab), yet quickly became General Manager of Cotter Limousine in Bloomfield. This position ignited his entrepreneurial spirit, and he launched his very own business, R&R Limousine Service for many years. Due to his exceptional service, Ray’s clientele grew significantly, and he was sought after by many celebrities, athletes and corporate executives. Ray eventually sold his successful business and went on to have a multi-year corporate career as an Executive Protection and Personal Driver for multiple CEOs, Presidents & Chairmen of Aetna.
Later in life Ray remarried to Yolanda Rivera and remained active in his retirement. He found himself becoming a Cardinal’s fan as he worked at their football stadium in Arizona. He enjoyed golfing, playing with his dog, Harley and maintaining his reputation for always having a pristine yard, even in Arizona’s heat.
A loving father, Ray will be deeply missed by his three children, Christina Rolando Aponte (Ryan) of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Hunt (Lucy) of Wesley Chapel, FL, Anthony Rolando (Alyson), of East Hartford; his stepchildren, Samantha Echevarria and Amanda Echevarria of New Britain, and a special daughter-in-law, Giorgiana Accaputo of East Hartford. Ray will also be forever remembered by his seven adored grandchildren, Michael, Michela, Michon, Malia, Anthony, Angelo, and Cayden. He is also survived by two siblings, Diane Rolando of West Hartford and John Rolando (Claire) of Angier, NC, as well as several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Ray was predeceased by his sister, Angela Rolando of Rocky Hill, whom he devoted himself to caring for in her final days.
His heart knew no limits, he extended his love to countless people and gifted his loved ones with enough memories and laughter to last a lifetime. Ray will be remembered as a selfless, humorous, and hardworking man.
The Rolando family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, November 16, from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield, with a service honoring Ray at 3 p.m. in the chapel.
