Michael John Rizzo

Michael J. Rizzo, 95, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 71 years of Lucille (Bourque) Rizzo, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Friday, December 6, 2019. Born in Hartford on May 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Rocco and Grace (Marone) Rizzo. Mike served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He played semi-pro football for the Hartford Spartans. Mike was associated with Pope Park Drug for many years. Employed by SNET for 32 years, upon his retirement he joined the Hartford Telephone Credit Union as a Marketing Coordinator. Prior to working at the Credit Union full time, Mike was the Board appointed President of the Credit Union. He was a member of the Wethersfield Chapter of UNICO National. Most of all, Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be forever missed by his devoted wife Lucille; five children, Patti Matthews and husband Reid, Michael Rizzo, Jr. and wife Tina, Luanne Cavasino and husband Mark, Edward Rizzo and wife Lisa and Robert Rizzo and wife Sandra; eight adored grandchildren, Reid, Jr., Michael, III, Robert, Nicholas, Stephanie, James, Jonathan and Andrew and four cherished great-grandchildren, Veronica, Elijah, Nate and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Chester Kozak, as well as many dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Carmella Rizzo and Rosanne Kozak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (December 9) at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
