John J. Mylott, a longtime resident of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. The oldest son of Harold and Florence Mylott, John was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from St. Peters College, Newark, New Jersey in 1956 with a BS in Accounting. After serving 2 years in the U.S Army, John married Maureen (nee Boyle) in January 1959 and settled in New Britain and raised 2 daughters, Laura and Susan.
John worked in finance/accounting at The Hartford Fire Insurance Company from 1959- 1987. During his tenure, John, participated in developing and implementing no-fault insurance policies on a national level. From 1995-2005, John worked as a manager/auditor in the Connecticut Credit Union League. In 2005, John started his own business, Accounting/Auditing Credit Union Services Inc., with a long-time friend and colleague. He made many friends at credit unions throughout CT and particularly enjoyed attended their Christmas parties and social events.
A lifelong devout Catholic, John was ordained a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1980. John served in St. Joseph Church in New Britain, St. Mark the Evangelist Parish in West Hartford (St Gianna Beretta Molla Parish) and St. Ann Church in Avon until his retirement on Jan 25, 2009. After retirement, John continued his ministry by making Communion visits to homebound seniors.
On warm days, John could be found golfing with his wife Maureen. Together they enjoyed many vacations with lifelong friends in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Maureen and John also enjoyed several overseas trips to Italy, Ireland, Israel, and Egypt. John’s special joy was spending time with his grandsons, Alex and Kevin. John was also predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Maureen. John is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Drs. Laura Mylott and Stanley Kankowski of Milford, NH and Susan and David Smith of Wethersfield, two grandsons, Alex and his wife Emily of Ipswich, MA and Kevin of Bloomfield and sisters, Marilyn Scagliuso of Howell Township, New Jersey and Marietta Freeman of Redbank, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10AM at Corpus Christi Church (Christ the King Parish), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, 4th Floor, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
